Emmaus Encounter

Tune: St Fulbert

('Ye choirs of new Jerusalem')

Luke 24 v.25-32

*********

The risen Christ, He did reveal

Did not Himself conceal

To two disciples on the road

To Emmaus they trode

Grant us faith to believe, not slow

Your prophecies to know

And all that your prophets did speak

That we may you true seek

You said to them, Ought not Christ to

Have suffered, rise anew

And to enter in His glory?

Defeating death, so be

They desired him to stay a while

As food they did compile

He broke bread, their eyes were open

Thy recognised Him then

Though He then vanished from their sight

They received inward light

Said, Did not our hearts in us burn

When we from Him did learn?

He opened to us the scriptures

That each to Him refers

Hope rises within, Christ alive

Ever does prosper, thrive
