Detours

DestinysPerspectives

Are detours a gift or a curse?

Are they obstacles by a different name?

Are they obstacles with a force like a hurricane?

A force too great to step around.

Are they stops in the road to something of destiny?

Are they moments of rest until the time is right?

Are they a path of the scenic route to our destination?

Some people remain there too tired to continue.

Some people rest for a moment then continue on.

They can bring surprises of new companions.

They can bring blessings in small packages.

They can bring surprises in new challenges.

Mine have been my mind, heart and body.

Mine have been unwelcomed company.

Mine have been restlessness yet tiredness.

I don't want these detours to be my undoing.

I don't want to lye here in wasted potential.

I want to walk a path of greatness.

My unwelcomed company sowed seeds of doubt.

A path of delusions they whispered.

A path of my undoing their voices whisper.

Now I know it's worth the risk.

I choose to continue on.

    all that's left, is voices
    in our sand footsteps
voices we ignore, cause we know
    to listen, is to fall
in that sandpit of cyclical, regret
    so we march on, onwards
    awaiting our life's, promised oasis..
    (what a wonderfully searching write
    a great read! thank you)

"I don't want to lye here in wasted potential" I feel you speak to so many with these words. A lot of us, I'm sure, feel so ready and "ripe" yet we often lack the resources or oppurtunity to shine. A great and thought-provoking piece!

Thank you!!! I was reflecting on my family's past while writing this so many were talented artists in their own right but never pursued it. Only my brother did as a musician. I don't want to be like them. I want to pursue writing poetry as a living one day despite the low pay. My life right now is just a detour there. I guess my brother and I were born to break our family's curse of detours.

So right, detours are something of a mystery,we never know what or who we will find when our lives turn that inevitable corner that we all round, the most memorable detour in my life is God leading me here to MPS, I met my husband here as I have great friends, I love everyone on MPS, some might not agree with my perspective or way of writing, but that's ok, I love you all, thank you for this special detour and impacting my life in a beautiful way

Thank you for your beautiful comment! I am grateful for this detour that has lead to our meeting too! I love your poems that are enriched with your wisdom! The format doesn't matter but the beautiful messaging. Your expression is part of your beautiful soul! I have so much true gratitude for you. Just like I do for other commenters. You all light a fire in my soul that keeps me writing when I have had a bad because I am not just writing for myself but others who may need to read the words I write to get through the day. Everyone I have met on these poetry sites have impacted me in the best ways. This detour is my blessing from God.

Oh that's wonderful news! The best I've gotten all day! I hope when she's ready that she might speak to me. I feel like she and I could relate. I would like to be her friend. When she's ready.

            • Crowns4Christ

Absolutely, I think that she would, I will let you know when she's back on here, she will accept your request,im sure of it
