As you know your god was not there when he took my wife from me although she had praised him and sung his praises for almost 80 years, where was he when she needed him!!

Yes, its' true if we do put our heart and mind into seeking Him. Sometimes we may say more casual prayers, still heard though.
I doubt we 'sweat blood' in prayers as Jesus did in Gethsemane, but that was a unique situation, I think.
