Like Some Old Discarded Stocking

Neville

Like Some Old Discarded Stocking

Like some old, discarded stocking

with a hole above the knee ..

Invisible to those just passing through maybe ..

But for them who dare

to stop and stare and those that give

a damn, then surely ..

Any decent doxy worth her salt would rush to nick

another silken one

to make a perfect matching pair ..

      Like some old discarded sock.
Is that not a great saying.
Mind you, the hole in it speaks volumes.

Ha ha -- - you got me there at the finish with that singularly clever plural ---- - - but point taken Nev. re. the old dear who like a holed stocking sits in all weathers and is almost invisible to those who don't want to see.

you got me ................................................... bless you Fay .. Neville

That would surely be trendy, and not a stare, stir or commotion as she passes by…..
            Delightfully light and amusing….

since my understanding is that it was somewhat up high, one might call it the height of fashion .. and I sure do thank thee for your uplifting comment Suresh .................................. Neville πŸ™‚

Well if OCD has any say in the matter, a matching pair is worth a salt. Or CDO as it should be. πŸ˜†

Careful! You may start a fashion trend. If life serves you lemons... make lemonade. Coping with the downside of life is what I extracted from this humorous poem.
Inform me - What the hell is a doxy?
Still caring about the opinion of "those that give a damn," she would "make a perfect matching pair.." Still resilient no matter the circumstance. Definitely "worth her salt." Most interesting view on life, and in so few words. - Phil A.

Ha .. thank you for your thoughtful & altogether well reasoned review Phil .. as always, your visits are more than welcome and very much appreciated .. a doxy is believed to be an olde (note the e on the end of old) English term variously meaning - a woman who cohabits with an important man concubine, courtesan, paramour kept woman, mistress, fancy woman - an adulterous woman; a woman who has an ongoing extramarital sexual relationship with a man or men .. it has also been historically applied to ladies of the night or prostitutes ... I think it is a lovely word and have heard it used as a term of fond endearment ... Neville

Haha, after I googled 'doxy', I got it!

                  Good fun words Neville.

I read an article once where a guy said that he was so please to be in around in the six months where mini-skirts had come into fashion in the 1960s but stockings had not been replaces by tights. LOL

In my minds eye, I can see precisely what he meant ........................ πŸ™‚
