Saxon Crow

Sometimes it's hard to be a poet
Putting your feelings into words
It means you really have to know it
Or dare to tread into the obscure
It takes empathy and imagination
To make real your thoughts on paper
And the effort can be overwhelming
With every mind word you've ever heard
If I were Vincent at his lowest
I wonder if I would cut off a hand?
Or would I die so artfully
As Lady Lazarus had
But melancholy is a beautiful thing
It creates many wonderful hues
For a poet knows with an artist's eye
That words have their shades too
And like the compulsive musician
Who has to play on and on
A poet must keep writing
A poet never stops
And yes it can be hard sometimes
But there is magic that we all feel
Because the world we paint with
Jumbled letters
Makes every dream come real
But one day I may drift too far
And get lost inside my head
And the pen may not be good enough
To describe what dying meant
But until that day, should it come
I'll keeping writing on and on
For although it can be hard sometimes
A poet is very strong

Great poem crow )) this is so nicely expressed

    Especially love these lines

But melancholy is a beautiful thing
    It creates many wonderful hues
For a poet knows with an artist's eye
That words have their shades too

Because the world we paint with
    Jumbled letters
    Makes every dream come real

Hmm but there again we are all different. Some will only write a few pieces about their broken heart whilst others can't seem to stop writing (and many wish they would LOL).
But whatever... it seems to be a part of me and in my humble way I plod on. Seeking what I wonder? I don't really know beyond it being cathartic to let my heart fight with words until a modicum of satisfation prompts me to say a piece is finished (though, you'll probably agree pieces are rarely 'finished').

Thank you for a piece which made me reflect right down to the bare bones of what this poetry thing is for me.

Yes I completely agree that every poem I've ever written is a work in progress lol. I'm glad you liked it and I hope I'm not one of the ones who should stop writing haha

I reflected for some time after reading your poem. For some of us, it is not easy to share our emotions. Learning to write is 1 issue but learning to share our writings takes courage and trust. MPS has been very good for both aspects. Thank you for this thought provoking poem.

Hi Roz. Luckily for us, as you've said, this website has got very supportive, polite and kind folks who appreciate each other. It's what brings me back here time and again. 😁
