One More

Fay Slimm.

One More.

Potence of nature

as sunlight warms water

shows swarms in shallows

of tadpoling life

all writhing to alter

wriggle for hop

so limbs metamorphize

turn tads to frogs

by mysterious

alchemic force

causing one more wondrous

reason for awe.

I remember as a schoolboy how someone would bring in a wodge of frogspawn and teacer would find an aquarium where it was plonked and over the weeks we watched the hatching tadpoles turn into tiny little frogs. Wonderful.
There was a pond in a field along the lane where we used to watch and catch common and crested newts amid the frogs. I suppose the newts dined upon the tadpoles but we never gave that sort of thing a second thought.
Isn't it great when poetry spurs memories. Thank you Fay.

Glad my few words brought back happy times for you Dusky - I can see in my mind's eye that pond where newts lived with tadpoles and young fingers caught them before they changed to frogs. Thanks for sharing those memories dear friend.

A creative poem of nature ❤️ Just brought to my memory that time when I recited a poem about tadpoles in elementary school. Thank you for this beautiful piece of work!

      • Fay Slimm.

Ah - so good to know the read brought back some of that tadpole recitation dear Judy - - thanks for sharing your memory with us here.

I'm liking one more of your poems Fay - this one!
Frogspawn at school = that tapioca stuff! Maybe an age-related thing, depending on when we were at school?

        • Fay Slimm.

Yes frogspawn was one great surprise of my young mind too Orchi - - the number of taddys it produced was ever awesome and to see them turn into frogs - - so glad you enjoyed the read..

Did this in school too. It was so exciting for us. This brings back lots of school memories, biology, science.

          • Fay Slimm.

Can bet that all schools once had that lesson in watching tadpoles turn into frogs dear Rosina - - I do hope they still do as it is truly exciting.
