Pretending

chloewrites

"You really loved her?" they ask you softly.  And how could you say anything other than yes? You had never known a love as pure as mine for you, had never felt the way you do for me.

"Who wouldn't?"

It wasn't a question. Or maybe it was, but you already knew the answer.  No-one.

"And she loved you?"

"More than I knew humanely possible."

"Then why did she leave?"

The question hit like a gunshot.  Its bullet pierced the walls of the room in your heart built just for me.  Walls incapable of climbing, walls previously though indestructible.  Though I was no longer present, it was your intent to keep me for all of the future.

"She left because she finally realized what I had warned her of all along.  I wasn't worth it.  I didn't give or treat her like she deserved, and the whole time I let her fight the world to be by my side. "

"So what happened?"

"She moved on with her life and I pretended to do the same."

One of the best small scenarios I've read up until this point. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
