Next Move

Paul Bell

His death came as a total shock

In reality, it made no sense

He was at the bottom of the food chain

Those were the words being spoken

Who would kill him

He was insignificant

Totally insignificant

Three blocks away

A man was playing chess

Studying the board

Thinking four moves ahead

In the next two years

Three more men would die

That insignificant man

Had he been alive today

Would have known exactly who the killer was

The significance would have been stark

The man playing chess

Knew, being insignificant was just one move away from being significant..

so many lonely souls, in our world
    dear empathetic, Poet
    I fear, too
    soon
being loved will be the oddity
    and neglected, the normality...
    then solo chess games
    will be all the: enRaged!

It all happens on the chessboard.

        re-read your comment five times
before 'cheeseboard' went away and chessboard
        made an appearance
guess I'm a bit peckish this morning..
        lol
