Her Hair, Her Haven, Her Heaven

Rocky Lagou

The tresses of Her perfect hair,

Her, and Her, and it, and they, and I.

And Her hair is an ocean. Her hair is a grand refuge.

Each strand a color, unique - a rainbow scalp.

Like a goddess - like a God.

Like him or him or they or Her or I.

She knows Herself, and she is defined –

By no one other than Herself.

And she lets down Her hair when she’s tired of the bun,

And unleashes the waves of every color – even hues unknown.

She knows freedom, she cuddles with equality,

She nuzzles with the mirror – and the waves – of Her hair.

She harbors each and everyone in the soft haven of Her hair.

Her haven, Her Heaven.

Unwelcomed, undesired – loathed.

Because the ones who don’t live in her beauty –

Die in the blindness of stupidity.

Dear Rocky, the visualization in this poem is breathtaking. As I read each line I can feel those tresses wrap around me, comforting and loving. Her beauty encompasses all of us. And to those who can't or refuse to see it, it is sadly their loss. A beautiful tribute my friend, "Happy Pride Month".

    • Rocky Lagou

Hello dear Bella, thank you so much for your impassionate response. I truly tried to encompass and personify what Pride means to me and it's a sort of safe community for me where I can feel confident in who I am without worrying judgement. I'm really glad to see you felt my emotions, hopefully people will be more aware of their hatred and spread kindness. Much love!

Dear Rocky, Hair is surely a symbolism of pride. No wonder great seers on the path of philosophy get their head tonsured to come out the first physical pride element. Hair on the top of the head, and first thing to get the pride out our head. Wonderful metaphor and intricately expressed. Thanks !!

Hello beloved Vamsi. I'm truly delighted to see that you fely my poem. I wanted to metaphorize Pride and the LGBTQ+ community in a way that's unique and vivid. So, depicting the Pride flag as hair was an apt analogy to describe our side of the story, and the fight that we still endure. Regardless I'm really glad you enjoyed, and your comments mean a lot to me. Much love, have a wonderful day!

Hey Rocky! First of all, you are such a sensible and a realistic poet. Have almost read all of your poems and undoubtedly loved this one as well. Your poems actually very precisely Convey your message to the reader. Just wanted to say, This poem is Amazing. Keep writing!

          • Rocky Lagou

Oh dear Ritika, thank you so so much for such kindhearted words. I personally admire when people read my older posts because it shows that they're truly interested in what I have to offer to the poetic scene. Thank you so much for even considering to read my poems, let alone comment to show your appreciation. Whenever I write I try to convey the essence of what I want to express. I try to avoid taking any "bypasses" and focus on depicting what I want to say. Of course I try to beautify my speech and manner, but you'll never lose touch with the speaker in any of my poems. I've noticed that many poets on this site are from India, and I literally love that. I take inspiration from Hinduism a lot and I think the Indian lifestyle is truly admirable. Thank you so much for making my day, I hope my poems can be just another stepping stone to unleashing the full potential of your own pen. 💖
