Tune: Ratisbon
('Christ whose glory fills the skies')
Luke 3 v.3-6
********
John [Baptist] preaching at Jordan's shore
He proclaimed repentance sure
Baptism of repentance
Forgiveness and penitence
Sins remitted, Christ would pay
Price of them on His cross-day
John the Baptist prophesied
By Isaiah*, not denied (*Old Testament prophet)
John the voice of one crying
In the wilderness, each thing
Prepare for the Lord, His way
Make all His paths straight today
Every valley shall be filled
Mounts, hills be brought low, God-willed
Crooked places shall be made
Straight, rough ways smooth, not delayed
And all flesh shall truly see
Salvation of God, so be
