Paracetamol of Time (and Space)

hopeskyliner

It always surprises me

How sneaky … healing is

You forget

You stop talking to imaginary versions of them

The paracetamol of Time and Space kicks in without you really noticing

You can't remember anymore

How much it could hurt

I guess you get used to it sucking

At first, you're surprised it's lasting so long

Wanting it to go away

Hating yourself for ruining everything

By not being ok

And then you give in

You have to eventually

And you become so accustomed to its presence

That you only notice when it's on its way out

I took the paracetamol

I gave myself Space and Time

And I lay on my bed

Bunched up Covers (of conversations cried through) disrupt my rest

But I flatten them out enough

And I distract myself

Till the drugs kick in

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about healing and how it always happens faster than you expect and how pain always lasts longer than you expect. It was written specifically about processing two of my closest friends starting to date and what that meant for our trio.
