Sea of Heartbreak
A memory comes to him
from across the sea.
Of Lost Love - on waves of misery.
The sea grows higher every day
and as he floats in that sea
it disguises his tears and wins them over to saltiness.
Placid and still - He floats with ease.
Raging and deadly - It’s all he can do to keep from drowning.
They were like two ships upon that sea
who met and followed the same course
sailing smoothly before the wind
until the Sun went down
and a storm was unleashed.
they were thrown about
crashing and clashing
taking on water.
they had no choice
but to separate
and steer new courses.
And now, stranded on this shore
he peers through the cloudiness
searching to see if she has returned to rescue him
but all he ever perceives is heartbreak
loneliness
and sorrow.
Wait!...What’s that on the horizon?
Could it be?
No, of course not. Just another lost soul
blown off course by a storm.
Or is it?

Not keen on love poetry generally, but the combination of loss and hope got to me...won't happen again...😊
(Did seriously engage me).
Thanks Dave. Tough to find poetry not about love in one form or another. Well, at least you got engaged.
Although sad that was a good poem. I thought it flowed very well.
Thank you, Raven. Appreciate the comment.
Your very welcome, it was a great poem to read.
Your imagery got me near tears Phil - - the sea and its waves means so much for many and I felt the sorrow of love lost but still needed.
Love and the ocean both claim many victims, and yet people insist on venturing in without being prepared. This could go on forever.
Thank you for your interesting comment.
Heartbreakingly beautiful, love the comparison of Love to the seas
Thanks Dove. Truly sad when love goes awry. But there is always hope.
