Reasons

Fay Slimm.

Reasons

Wet as brown pebbles elderly faces
daily parade, jackets held
tightly below capped heads, woolly
clad chests, pets on leads
lifting up legs or stooping as nature
dictates, mature carers stop

and dog-bag at the ready will bend

backs and droppings retrieve.

In heat or cold winter seniors plod,
exchanging nod-recognition
with others regaining missed life
since losing kin, smile
despite inclement skies or ageing
bones as canine exercise

gives motive for outings that might

not be otherwise taken.

Walks become vital to stay-at-home
people when sharing with
          four-pawed, fur-coated pals duo
pleasures and trips outdoors
                  become a much looked-for task
for folk who need reasons

for coping with days that otherwise

must be lived quite alone.

      'gives motive
      for outings
      that might
      not be otherwise taken.'
      so, so deep..
in this more and more, alienated
      version of reality, we all
      seem to be experiencing
      this 'little excuses, as motive'
      literally
      save, lives...!
we owe our Dog's and pets
      so much
      they give, give, give
      for just a few mouthfuls
      and a back rub or two a day;
      while
      our fellow, empathetic human's
      charge £60
      (for the cheap seats)
to simply, listen to us for an hour..
      crazy!
      thank you! dear Fay
for gracing us with your Poetry once again
and as always, its a privilege
      to witness your mastery

Yes, really beneficial and for companionship. I saw someone walking a cat on a lead! Not the same as walking a dog, as cat laid down and decided to have a wash. Owner had to wait until cat had finished - or carry the cat!

        • Fay Slimm.

Yes I knew someone who walked their cat daily --- felines are very different in nature from canines. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the posting dear Orchi.

You've written beautifully of the relationship between dog, or should I say friend, and owner. A walk becomes so much more.

          • Fay Slimm.

Yes Bella a dog is indeed a friend to a caring owner - - a boon to those too who now live all alone. So glad you enjoyed the read.

Brulee Bru Bruiser Parsley Parsnip Pettitt say's it's a ruff tuff life having to look after his Neville in all weathers and particularly when he needs to go out for a run when I want to paws and put all four feet up in front of the fire .... N 🙂

            • Fay Slimm.

Ha ha - - I love dog-speak and know what you mean when Bruiser Pettitt disagrees on walikies cos my little Tessa does just the same. Who is the winner I wonder when it comes to gettin' one's own way and lettin' the fireside wait..................... x

Emotive words Fay and so very true.

              Andy

              • Fay Slimm.

Thank you Andy - -- there are many in this position who turn to a dog for company and outings.
