Tune: St Timothy
('O Holy Ghost, thy people bless')
**********
Is heart dry as an arid land?
Need showers from God's hand?
Come, hot and tired and weary, rest
Be in God's presence blessed
Showers upon the thirst ground
He shall scatter around
The parched grass shall be green again
He shall refresh it then
And too, water of life he be
To quench our dry souls, see
Inspire us with His Spirit, so
His graces we shall know
O leave us, Lord, not desolate
As if in desert set
May streams abound, your healing balm
Protect us from all harm

- Comment from author about the poem: I will make up my mind soon, having grumbled about St Swithin and rain recently - nothing personal, I don't know him personally. A hymn-poem in 8.6.8.6. format.

Now we have a lot of rain. I can understand how you have to wait for it.
Thanks T.
this could be most refreshing .. just add some bubbles 🙂
Thanks N. How come it's not refreshing if we do have it 40 days in a row - the St Swithin waffle?! Hmm.
I don't understand the first thing about St Swithin, orchi - I've never met the bloke - who is he?
Wot I do know definitely is that after forty days in a row, the novelty has definitely worn off.....
Well, if it rains on St Swithin's Day, July 15, a superstition is that it will rain for 40 days after. Hence my rant - not against him personally. I've never met him either.
The sky raineth and the sky taketh away. Feast or famine these days, dear friend, depending on where you are under the heavens. Good Write!
Thanks Bella.
Very refreshing to the soul! Beautiful poem!
Thanks Judy.
It rained here during the night Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
