Early Morning Rituals
Where else might one
just sit
these days, and watch
the sky
and sea, in awe of such
subtle pastel shades
as those, found only on
a bramblings cheek ..
Indeed, all this,
while ancient anchored
fishing boats
in rows each dance
and sway upon a tune
the two of us
might well fail to hear ..
Yet still
the old men mend their
ragged nets and
women tend, then gut,
then scale
and clean the catch ..
as cobbled streets again
turn silver ..
And all before breakfast
on a day just like
yesterday, today and tomorrow

You pen with such ease not only a picture but a way of life that carries its pride from years gone by rightt through to modern day where family enters the tending to caught fish for sale So familiar here too mon ami those early morning rituals that I could smell the sea and the catch ..............x
I just knew you would get this Fay ..................................................................... x
The magic of morning, there's nothing else like it. The start of each day ,with cherished routines that give constancy and order to our lives. You have penned this so beautifully. Now I'm thinking about my morning walk and the ritual of brewing my coffee, I can smell it even now. Thank you my friend!
even before I hit the first key in response to your awesome review my friend, I could feel the beginnings of a smile forming on this old face of mine .................... enjoy that coffee Bella 🙂
Here's a cup to my my friend!
.......................... Aah' cheers B ... 🙂
Preserved in aspic by your piece, a way of life which many, and I’m not exempt here, would be unaware of its continued survival. Yet a very long time ago (I was a kid, in fact) a visit to the coast….. You assure me (city boy) of its existence yet?
At the very least the write provokes a very vivid memory, Neville.
Thanks.
Tis true I tells ya Dave ......................... more or less every morning, depending on weather and catch .. one has to get up early mind and you might be surprised that few holiday makers or tourists actually do get up early enough to catch a sight of em ......................................... Great words Neville I was there with the fisher folk as your words described.
Andy
Thank you Andy .............................................................. Neville
Good write N.
Thanks O.
A beautiful and simplistic days were the best days than the chaos we lived in…wish I could witness such peaceful co-existence lazing around corner watching the clouds playing with sun behind….
I kinda agree with you spills & long for those days when steam was king and every day was a sunny day 🙂
