Socrates Impression

AuburnScribbler

In my customary weekend state, I gate-crash a boring table,

to share some written wisdom, that makes me look more stable,

they become attentive, but, just for a little while,

as their collective thought, says to me, should we smile?

Thus, when I am reading, I see them passing the salad bowl,

I hope there’s no hemlock in there, I’ll try to make it droll,

The kids listen in, to my truth, not to some corruption,

but the mundane way of thinking, says that it’s destruction,

so, the table gives me some applause, like I am some clown,

then, both they and I, make a move, to another place in town.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Sometimes on certain weekends, (the ones that I’m not gigging on), I like to go for a walk, that will obviously lead me to a pub somewhere, and when I’m a bit giddy, sometimes I like to recite my poetry to both old and new friends alike. This got me wondering, this must have been what the ancient philosophers kind of did, in order to get what they were thinking; out there to the masses. So, I hope that you enjoy this poem entitled “Socrates Impression”, make sure to get your words out there, and please do stay safe everyone.

Would that I could be in a place where someone would wander in and recite poetry. Social venues are so noisy these days that you have to scream to speak the mundane, and people do just often nod and smile. It's a shame to think that beautiful words are lost on those who do not truly hear and appreciate. Socrates would be proud of you, just don't do it in a toga. Great write my friend!

Thanks for the read Bella, and I hope that you find your happy reciting place, and yeah I agree, the unwanted noise of mundanity can be horrendous, so, sometimes, if I've had one too many, I just shout a little louder, hahaha!

If Socrates is proud of me, then that is very high praise indeed, and with it getting a lot warmer again, I can't promise not to do it in a toga, hahaha!

Thanks again, and I hope that all is well!

Great words Ben, I'll meet you at the pub one day and we can both recite our words.
