Changes In Time.

Goldfinch60

We were walking by My River

Enjoying the beauty around us,

As we passed people

All said hello with a smile,

Life was so good.

Coming towards us was a man,

A man pushing a pushchair,

His small grandson sat there

Looking all around,

Smiling at everything.

The man greeted us with a smile,

As did the child.

They walked on into their future

And the sad though came to me,

One day it may be different,

The grandson may be the one

The one pushing the wheelchair,

The wheelchair for his granddad,

As he reached his elder years.

Or you getting one of those powered chairs and gonna mow us all down? Some are hazardous. They should be on the roads by the speed they are doing!
We don't know each person's situations, but some in those chairs can walk OK. They park the vehicle outside shops.

    • Goldfinch60

Some are dangerous Orchi but the few I know in powered chairs need them very badly.

I read of an 'all welcome' walk-about. Then it said 'The route is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs'. Doh!

So true, some people just cannot cater for the disabled.

A tear in my eye after reading your words - - so true Andy that time waits for nothing and passes so quickly - the number however is wonderful with all the band making the Unchained Melody a sound to lift the spirits - -- thank you for sharing it.

I'm so pleased to read that you still walk alongside your beloved Avon (you'll have to tell me how to drive onto Crown Meadow when the gates at the bottom of the ramp are shut yet there are cars on the meadow).

It's refreshing to think about times changing and generations moving on. We can try to pass along out wisdom and knowledge as best we can but at the end of the day the thing we pass along mostly is love.

              • Goldfinch60

Oh yes, My River is still with me. I have never known the gates at the bottom of the ramp shut, if you just drive along the road passed the parking meter one of the gates on the right is always open.
If you are going to go there let me know and I will join you.

Yes times are changing and you are so right, the most important thing that we can pass on in our lives is love.

I've often thought of how we begin our lives needing care, and when much older we need care again. And in-between, we are the caregivers. Thought provoking write Andy, well penned.

                  The picture is clear –
                  When life’s end draws near
                  There’s nothing to fear
                  It is today that’s dear.

One day at a time, Andy.

                  • Goldfinch60

                    Thank you Dave.

Yes very true, one day at a time, every day is so important in our lives.

It is true that time waits for nothing and we don't know what waits for us. Beautiful poem.

                    • Goldfinch60

Thank you deeps, yes it is true time does not wait but I am fortunate to have lived a long life and I have much more to come.
