Crusin' to reality

MendedFences27

Cruisin’ to reality

We came together there, as we both stopped

in mothership’s tubular entryway.

We were rushed along until we were dropped

Like embryos, at our cabin’s doorway.

Lastly, mothership roared when we emerged

into our new life upon the sea…. Where:

1

You see them snuggling ‘neath the nighttime stars

spending their time kissing and romancing.

Young folks who favor the lounges and bars

listening to their music and dancing.

They're always on their cell phones in the clubs.

Counting “likes” is their utmost endeavor

besides luxuriating in hot tubs..

When they eat, it’s like their last meal ever.

2

You’ll see the mature folks on jogging tracks

and pursuing amusement by daylight

or lying on deck chairs toasting their backs

yet, they’re in the theater every night.

They’ll be dining in the refined bistro

with the gentler music and sing along

as she sings and plays on the piano

each and every one of her old love songs.

3

The older folks in their “walkers” and “zimmers”

and those that may, hobble as best they can.

None in the pool, probably not swimmers.

Cigar club loners puffing on Cubans.

Elders in casinos spend too much time.

Bingo’s a popular experience.

Lots of seniors play it damn near full-time.

Sadly, time will end this extravagance.

4

White linen tablecloths and silver spoons

martini bars and shuffleboard courts

fine art, sculptures, and piano tunes

sightings of cathedrals and ancient forts

casinos to roll dice and bet on deals

all these creature comforts we hold dear

like, crews to make the beds and serve the meals

will end when the ship docks next at the pier.

.

The cruise is done. Back to reality.

Though it feels like being stabbed with a knife.

Maybe soon, we’ll sail to Felicity

last port of call on the cruise ship of life.

I know I have said it before .. but you have such a keen eye Phil .. for a few moments back then, I felt like I was sitting in a petri dish and being watched from above ... an amazing journey of self discovery ..

I am on that cruise Phil and hopefully for a long time to come.

Thank you, Andy. Enjoy the cruise.

As a metaphor, i think I can take it, Phil. As a description of an actual cruise, you have evoked an old memory and reminded me of my allergy...

Thanks D.D. for the comments. Maybe you should try an ointment.

...to cruising/travel on ships. Avoidance seems the best solution. My meds cupboard is bulging with half used ointment tubes. 🙂

LOL Dave. You make me laugh.
