At my old age I have seen many things
And I know the world,
The world I knew will never be the same.
But I listen to music of that time
And it brings back those times,
Those times when people respected each other.
We may not have liked them
But we held each other in respect.
Those were the days my friends,
We though they would never end.
We were wrong.

Might be true for you and me, however..
In the sixties, seventies, while Mary sung
All manner of conflict was going on;
But then, of course at that time we were young….
Get it together, Andy....🙂
But respect seemed to be there in those times, it does not exist now Dave. I always try to be respectful to all.

Complicated: first I have to admit I was having a bit of a lend (Aussie coloq?) As a contrarian I decided to take the broad view and hint at all the strife going on in different parts of the world (even as close a France) at that time. You however were referring to general standards of civility in cultures such as ours (the anglophone countries). On that point I concede that there appears to have been some decline in civility. Whether or not that can be attributed to the malign influence of social media (a tentative theory) is probably an open question.
Teddy’s comment on bus queues or lack thereof is interesting – in 1967 when I bummed around Europe, countries such as Greece and the then Yugoslavia had no concept of queueing either…
We should always respect the past. The days which we spent were the best, and the days which we are going to spend would be so hardest.
That respect was there in the past but it is not shown nowadays Maya and that I just cannot understand.

I am truly with you here my friend, those were the days. You echo something that I frequently say to my grandchildren, that there was a time when even politicians who were rivals respected each other. Now it seems that permission has been granted to disrespect from the highest levels. At least we knew those times, in spite of all the problems. A good write!
Thank you Bella, if respect is shown nowadays it is so rare but it is delightful to see, especially in young people.
