Well that took me back,
Back many years of my life.
Three guys came into the coffee bar,
Got their coffee,
Went outside
And sat at a table.
As they sat down
Each reached into their pockets
And pulled out some cigarettes,
Once they were lit
They sat around chatting,
And drinking,
And smoking,
And that took me back,
Back to when smoking was the norm.
Walking into a smoke filled pub,
Thinking nothing of it
As I pulled out a fag
To go with my pint.
At work it was often the case
As I walked into an office
I could barely see across the room,
The smoke from cigarettes hid everyone.
Nowadays it is just not done,
But back then it was normal,
And those three guys reminded me,
Of those fun, smoke filled days.

Irony substitutes here for the smoke -
Hides the disaster that lurked in those times.
How was it I survived and did not croak?
I committed those self inflicted crimes.
A nice piece of recollection I remember too well, Andy.
Thanks Dave, I too used to smoke 'back in the day'.

I too occasionally hark back and hanker for a crafty fag (that's a cigarette folks) for anyone unfamiliar with proper old-fashioned English 🙂
Too true Neville, I am convinced that if I were to have a fag I would start again even after nearly 40 years since the last one I had.

I remember 65 years ago I was at a Bruins hockey game with my dad. We were sitting up in the nose bleed section. I just remembered men buzzing around down below and a heavy smoke cloud hanging over all. Cigars and cigarettes everywhere. Years later taking my son to the same arena for a Celtics basketball game the air was clear and clean….
Yes John, times have certainly changed in the smoking/non smoking world.
I like your 'nose bleed section' it must have been very high up.
