Zeal For Zion

Tune: Christchurch

('Now is eternal life')

Psalm 48 v.1-3 and v.8-14

Great is the Lord, and He

Greatly to be praised be

In His own city, in

Jerusalem therein

It built upon Mount Zion strong

His mount of holiness, raise song

It beautifully places

Situated and graced

Teh joy of the whole earth

Mount Zion of great worth

It the city of the great King

Our God, let praises to Him ring

For He is known there for

A refuge safe, 'tis sure

Her palaces here bright

There dwells the Lord of light

His special place, though everywhere

By His Spirit He does dwell fair

As we have heard, so we

Now with our eyes do see

The city of the Lord

Is true unto His word

He will establish it for e'er

For it His residency there

We have thought of your love

And kindness, Spirit, dove

In midst of your temple

O God, we on you call

As is your name, so is your praise

To ends of earth, to endless days

For righteous you be, let

Mount Zion rejoice yet

Let those therein be glad

Not e'er oppressed or sad

Because your judgements, justice you

Work from there, they for ever true

Walk about Zion, go

Roundabout her and know

Her towers, bulwarks, they

Provide defence alway

And tell too of her palaces

To future people, good is this

For this God is our God

Round His mount, temple trod

We, and entered therein

To praises fresh begin

He will be our guide unto death

E'en beyond final earthly breath
