We were walking by My River,
My lover and I hand in hand,
Our love shining around us,
Floating over the shining water
For all to see .
There ahead of us stood a lady
Standing by the riverside
Surrounded by birds.
She was feeding them,
But not throwing the food into My River,
But all around her
On the grass.
She was surrounded by them,
The Canada Geese were there in force,
Black headed gulls were in abundance,
Often being chased away by the geese.
They flew into the air
But soon came back.
There were mallard and pigeons,
A delightful sight to see.
As they were being fed
The thought came to me,
I must try this,
Not throw the food into My River
But throw it around me
So that the birds come up to me
And we can enjoy each other’s company
With a closeness not had before.

- Comment from author about the poem: Whenever I have fed the birds at My River I have always thrown the seeds into My River as that is where the birds were but this lady threw it on the ground around her and the birds came to her, I must try that.

Good write Gold.
Oh lol, in one churchyard it said 'Please do not feed the birds'. But people did. The Vicar came out and chased the people off.
Well vicars are like that!!

My partner is of the same mind.
Lorikeets and cockatoos find
Five pm, her doorway: disputes prime;
Noisy rucks around supper time.
Magpies (Australian) in there too – bless ‘em
Great to see the birds around Dave, I have been watching them all my life.

I read this as I watch the birds at my backyard feeder. Nice write.

This is priceless dear Andy. Reminiscent of times on vacation, stopping at a park with a lake for lunch, and feeding the geese. They seek you out and vie for the bits and pieces you throw. Peaceful, and thrilling to be so close to them. Thank you for this lovely piece, now I want to go feed the birds.
Thank you Bella, yes it is great to be with the birds around you.
