What Didn’t We Find in the Attic
Dead daisy chains still
wrapped
in tissues and saved
in a pair
of old, and odd sock
drawers
as a keepsake
of sorts, and of course ..
From long
summers past, and a
battered
brown leather suitcase,
with someone’s
initials ..
Each of the locks, both
redundant
and broken but still
stuffed
with mementos and
memories
and spare parts from a
dozen or so
children’s old board games ..
Oh’ and
bubble-gum wrappers
and ribbons
and crayons, lined up in
a row like
soldiers, each stood to
attention ..
Plus a collection of pins
which once,
held fast framed, Victorian
butterflies
long since passed and
released ..
Not to mention the tea
and the
cigarette cards and all
manner
of smooth shiny things
collected from
beaches, down the sides
of settee’s
and from a wicked
assortment
of sacred burial mounds ..
We also
found boxes of milk teeth
old sepia
photographs, newspaper
cuttings and all
manner of anniversary cards ..
But never the bodies

What fun to find even half of these long-ago things in an attic - - your fertile mind thought up some almost forgotten mementos which I could relate to - - - re. those cigarette cards and always- kept milk teeth - - a really unique subject and a fab. read mon ami................x
Thank you Fay ......... x

Not there (the bodies) 'cos there's no room for 'em... LOL. Selective flashes of recognition throughout, Neville - lead off to all manner of memories.
Thanks for that.
Too true and ta for taking time to treat this little scribble with such considered thought 🙂
There are so many memories found when we explore our attics Neville.
Andy
and our cellars my friend ................. 🙂
A fine write N.
that's fine by me, cheers ....... 🙂
Thank God, or else the sirens will go off and the hand cuffs will shine with a lot of explaining to follow and if not well recalled could lead to undesired ride.
Just imagine all the history hidden in those objects that jar the sleeping memory glands, often leading to a smile, just as your words have done today.
I am delighted you could read between the line Suresh .......... it seems you can read me like a book 🙂
