how firm is the ground on which you stand?

verona

now you feel the earth shake below,
and you hold on for life -

life. but you will live -
i know in your heart,
you don't believe -
whatever happens you will live
and you've been so afraid you've forgotten how.

live, leave - there were so many things you wanted to do,
you never did.

let the earth shake you awake.
do not lie peaceful

as once you lay in the womb
and as you will lay in the ground.

stay or die, leave or remain,
you die, you die every day.

they never tell you -
you die every day.

a piece of you, a memory, a dream.
what are we but the record of the things we've seen?

yet you never need be who you were before.
so die, perhaps, die a little more.

This is full-blown cerebral ecstasy. I am literally captivated by your artistry and the way you've so gracefully conducted your words in this poem. I feel like this piece can be a nod to depression or overall mental health and as a person who suffers with it daily I can tell you that you hit it right on the mark. You said it relates to "visa issues" and I can also sense that sort of "exile" state that the speaker may be experiencing. Thank you for this, it's wonderful.
