Exalting Encouragement

Tune: Regent Square

('Light's abode, celestial Salem')

Psalm 99

*******

The Lord reigns, let people tremble

In reverential fear all

He sits between the cherubims

Let us praise Him with our hymns

Let the earth be moved, responsive

Unto Him our worship give

The Lord He in Zion is great

He be of royal estate

He is high above all people

Let them praise Him, one and all

Praise His great and terrible* name (*awesome)

Holy, awesome, He the same

And godly rulers love justice

The Lord does establish this

Equity, judgement, righteousness

He His people shall He bless

Exalt you the Lord your God here

Worship Him, for He is near

Worship here on earth, His footstool

He is holy, on Him call

Among His priests Moses, Aaron

They His servants true each one

And Samuel among them that call

On the Lord, He does hear all

He did speak through cloudy pillar

They kept His laws, did endure

You, O Lord God, did them answer

And did forgive them for sure

Though on their evil deeds you took

Vengeance, you them not forsook

Exalt the Lord our God, worship

Him now by our deeds and lips* (*words)

Come to His holy hill, for He

Everlasting holy be

Hill of Zion, Here Temple be

God's special residency

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7.8.7 format. The hymn is by Thomas a Kempis, a 15th Century monk, with some of the most eloquent descriptions I've come across. A real Salvation Army sort of tune and hymn.

I have been seeking a contemporary rendition of this timeless composition. Perhaps one day!

Thanks CB. I dare not change the hymn in the clip. It would ruin it - maybe.

...not in the clip, of course not!

You gonna jazz it up?! That's OK, but it might ruin some traditional songs.

got no appetite for ruining stuff just seeking out a fresh outpouring, anointing, and that comes rare.
