Tune: Darwall
('Ye holy angels bright')
St Luke's Day - Oct 18.
*********
Luke, doctor. physician
Of the gospels wrote one
Reporting Jesus' love
The Holy Spirit, dove
With care, compassion, tending need
He does each of His sheep sure feed
Teaching, preaching, healing
The show, reveal, each thing
Of God's kingdom and how
It comes to grow right now
The gospel spread, good news to all
Who turn to Him and on Him call
Gracious gifts he does give
Medicine, health, so live
They who are thus made well
And they proclaim and tell
Of God's healing power, He nigh
And Him they so do glorify
Grant wisdom, healing here
Still to needy appear
In this our day and age
Each day turning a page
Of life until final day, see
Hope of healing eternally

surely, this is a hymn poem in 6.6.6.6.8.8 format 🙂
Thanks N. Yep, it's of the 666688 variety!
A physician with a double barrel syringe - one physical, the other spiritual. Of course there weren't syringes back in the day but we can get the feel of the image.
Thanks CB.
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
I like that, "Hope of healing eternally"
Thanks Alison. Could sound like a bit of hyperbole (exaggeration, over-the-top), or a final flourish of a poem, but a true hope for believers.
