Caught

Fay Slimm.

Caught.

Air-blue was the skirt of quick
freshening breeze.
It danced as it travelled across
rustle-dry trees.

Seared itself through thin thorn
fronting water.
Shook leaves against rock split
with heat's torture.

Stirred dust until wisps of light
flame caught thin twigs.
Alive the first glow breeds fire's
dread beginning.

Like a side-winding snake flew
death down hillside.
Eyes who had seen this knew
fright before flight.

Forest blaze brooks no feeling
for life in the wild.
Lit an inferno's insatiable greed
restrains survivors.

in all my years, I have personally witnessed two of these & on both occasions from my friends villa in La Spezia Italy overlooking the bay where Shelley drowned .. five years apart but will never forget the heat & the hunger of them .. mighty well poemed Fay ............. Neville x

Thanking you nudely - no I meant truly - - oh yes Nev- - fire out of control in forested areas creates fear in any who witness its sheer devastation. Glad you approve of the style I felt guided to use.............x

    A dramatic write Fay.
I'm busy deciding if I should meet some of 'Neville's women'. I might swoon! lol.

    • Fay Slimm.

A dramatic time is when fire is raging with no control - thanks for your read and comment dear Orchi.

    • Bella Shepard

We have wildfires burning in 8 states right now due to drought, and it's only getting worse. The scenes of destruction are devastating. Your words capture the total consumption of flora, fauna and human life by insatiable fire. A great write dear Fay.

How tragic the wildfires in so many states Bella - You have great need of much courage to face such devastation and all our prayerful thoughts are with both you and the many trying to cope the fires' great onslaught my friend.

I'm on a unity ticket with Bella here, Fay. I live in the middle of Sydney and am not directly affected. However - large portions of Australia have been the subject of your richly descriptive piece.
(I use past tense, because floods are in ascendency right now....)

Vivid words Fay on a tragedy that I have luckily never witnessed.
