Integrity Issue

Doggerel Dave

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
I will return early January.

These lions from Taronga (Sydney) Zoo

Decided on a trip to see the sights.

Dad claimed the idea and he took the cubs too -

(Mum pushed him to sample the city's delights).

Perhaps he was looking for a new den?

But a quick survey of Sydney prices,

(So different from the veldt he last saw when?)

Returns him home where free board entices.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The fence involved, we have been informed, had an ‘integrity issue’ 🙂🤪 🤪 Dad and cubs did return of their own accord, bar one little fella who got lost, was tranquilised and returned to Dad (and Mum)

Oh that would have been exciting! Taronga was a frequent getaway for us when we lived out Sydney way.

Weren't glamping there , were yer?

Oh that would've been the best, Dave. A nocturnal visit complete with dinner and modcon tent, LOL. Quite pricey we're told. We just took the kiddies on day trips, trains, ferries and lots of walking and eating.

Certainly saw lots of lions in the tabloids, TV and so on....

A change of scenery is nice, but one does long for home after a while. Kids can also be a bother when traveling. So glad that all was right in the end, and the happy family once again safe and sound, after all there's no place like home. I had to smile just thinking about mum and dad. Good one dear Dave!

Thanks Bella - Last two lines, first stanza modified - Mum's role more truthfully depicted.

            Delightful doggerel!

Doggerel is precisely wot it woz - and I enjoyed doing it.
The lion's return/Sydney house prices was a brief comment by an unknown listener on breakfast radio that I felt needed a slightly more permanent home. A fence with 'integrity issues' just boggled my mind.

Those lions must have bee great to see Dave.

Seems they were, Andy. Many lions, I think, shared the load on all forms of media. Me - I couldn't see most of them through tears of laughter as I contemplated the fence with 'integrity issues'. Pictured fence off for re-education and counselling.

A well told story with wit and a happy ending. What more could you want in such a brief passage. Well written Doggerel Dave.

Thanks for that, Soren. Sometimes there cometh a piece of news which lasts for a couple of days and distracts from the other crap going on. Full on entertainment - especially when the zooperson joins the act...
BTW I really don't mind, honestly, if we drop the formalities - forget the respectful title and just call me 'Dave'...............!

                    Thanks Dave

Delightful, Dog. Inflation effects all creatures without distinction!

                    • Doggerel Dave

Yeh - some more than others though, Gary.

                    • SureshG

The reason only dad and cubs went out is because mom told him to spend more time with the cubs “or else”!

                      A delightful post indeed

                      • Doggerel Dave

Yeh, Dad gets exhausted growing all that hair in his head - Mum has a much cooler brain and must give him a push every now and again...........
