Exhorting To Endurance

Tune: Morning Hymn

('Awake my soul, and with the sun')

Hebrews 12 v.1-4

********

Seeing that we are surrounded

By many witnesses, 'tis said

With fellow believers to cheer

Us on, let us make progress here

Let us lay aside every weight

That hinders us, each sinful state

That does beset us, does ensnare

And seek to trouble us, ill-fare

Let us run with patience the race

Set before us, with even pace

Continuing, persevering

Looking to Jesus in each thing

He the author of our faith be

It all is from Him completely

The originator, and He

The finisher of our faith be

He shall perfect us, make us whole

In body, spirit, and in soul

Who for the joy that lay ahed

Endured the cross, rose from the dead

And now is seated at right hand

Of God's throne, He Lord of each land

Consider Him who did endure

Hostility from sinners sure

Lest you be weary, faint in mind

Discouraged, tempted then to find

You have not in struggles shed blood

As Christ did, and gave cleansing flood

A hymn of praise indeed. This could easily be sung in church. Nicely rhymed and with a good flow.

Thanks S. One church wouldn't have any of my songs. It wasn't where they were 'at', so they said. Doh! Oh no, they must have 'choruses', about 5 million repeats of the same ones! I've since said 'goodbye' to them.
