Gospel Givers

Tune: St Stephen

('In Christ there is no east or west')

Colossians 4 v.2-6

********

Continue in prayer, and watch in

The same with thanks therein

Praying for spread of the gospel

Each witness of it tell

That doors be opened, and ways made

To preach bold, unafraid

To share the mystery, open

Secret of Christ still yet

Live wisely midst non-believers

You who as receivers

have believed sure the gospel news

So many more may choose

Choose to accept the salvation

Christ offers each nation

Redeem the time, it not wasting

Be fruitful in each thing

Let your speech be always with grace

To peoples, every race

And seasoned with salt, that you may

Answer each in right way

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.6.8.6. format. The hymn was 'The School Hymn' of my Primary School. We had other hymns too, but this was the 'favourite'. I may do a series of poems on Colossians soon. 'Mystery' in verse 2' means 'open secret'. A mystery, yet a secret that everyone can know. Also, mystery in the sense of no humans thinking it up.
