Old To New

Tune: The Supreme Sacrifice

('O valiant hearts')

Hebrews 10 v.9-10

*********

Jesus said, Lo, I come to do your will

O God, to save humankind from their ills

In this He takes away Old Covenant

Establishes the New, from heaven sent

By this will we are sanctified, whole made

Ongoing, not immediate displayed

But it is through the offering, so be

Of the body of Jesus Christ freely

Freely given on the cross, once for all

Once in time for whoe'er shall hear His call

To salvation, forgiveness of our sins

'Tis where eternal life in Him begins

Yes, valiant hearts, yet none more valiant

Than Christ, Son of God, from the Father sent

He would always do what His Father said

Saves us, makes possible life from the dead

Remembering, we give you thanks for they

Who serve, and served in battle in their day

Departed, living, memories ne'er cease

Our prayers unto Christ, He the Prince of Peace

The last two lines of verse 4 are from a more modern translation of these Bible verses.

Modern translations are not all that bad. Sometimes they even manage to capture with freshness how the original languages read. I guess there are words that mean differently today than when they were used way back then, that should factor in as well. Or so we'd plausibly think. Cheers.

I love that saying of the Master himself about bringing treasures both old and new. I love heirlooms and new things as well. A perfect delightful blend!

Thanks CB. I heard that the new treasures are on top of the treasure chest, just recently been put in there, and the old treasures are further down in the chest.
Yes, some modern translations are OK I think. I just can't get on with The Message though, saying 'Bravo!' and stuff like that. Not read it all. It may also say 'Watcha, mate', 'Yoohoo!', 'Hooray!'. etc. (lol).

The Aussie Bible does. It’s a crack up of a translation!

Dear poet, such a beautiful poem, tribute, remembrance. I read first, and then I watched the video. The music and the words touched me so deeply that it brought tears to my eyes. This is such a profound write my dear friend. So many wonderful facets of the gem that you are. You never cease to surprise and amaze me. You are a definite fav!

Thanks Bella. I got emotional when I first watched the video. I picked it out from a few with the same hymn.
