I Am One With Creation

Bella Shepard

The ancient alarm in my brain wakes me at 5:15 every morning

By 5:30 I have donned 5 layers of winter wear

(Winter has finally shown up, 20 degrees)

And I am opening the door to a new day

Stepping out into a magical world

“Good morning Moon”

“Hello Stars”

“Hope you all slept well, I certainly did”

There is a shimmering, orange presence on the horizon

My little patch of earth is turning to greet the sun

And it dawns on me, no pun intended

That I belong to this living, breathing planet

I ‘m made up of all the stardust in the universe

I share every atom, molecule, particle

In my symbiotic relationship with all of life

I am one with the creeks, streams, rivers as they flow to the ocean

As does the blood in my veins course to my heart

I am one with the oceans, their waves beating upon the shores

As does my heart beat within my body

I feel the rhythm of life that has existed from the very beginning

I am one with creation, creation is one with me

We are inseparable

Your last eleven lines perfectly express feelings in me which over the years I can sometimes feel almost as vividly as your lines, Bella; more often at this end of my life, I think. Many thanks.

I can in no way relate to the first five; if I found myself in such a situation, there is no one or oneness with anything which could encourage me out from under the three quilts and doona to greet the universe.đŸ™‚ (Twenty degrees momentarily sounded OK though……. Oh no - that’s centigrade…)

Thank you dear Dave, I truly appreciate such kind words from a kindred spirit with whom I wander the universe. The first five, however, are certainly peculiar to me. In fact, some might say that I am peculiar. Stay warm my friend.

When you live in the moment, and it’s all yours, there’s no happier moment.

Thank you my friend for this lovely comment, so very true.

Having not ever lived closer to the poles I have of late found it quite taxing to prepare for the change of the seasons. Where I am currently at it already has averaged 15C for the longest stretch of the day and that's way colder than the winters I grew up in. So as long as those layers are comfy and put on we're all happy and snug until the return of warmer days. Being one with creation does have health benefits, well being the top of that exciting list!

Thank you dear friend for your comment. The coldest temp I've ever gone out in was 17 degrees, and don't do single digits at all. A few years ago I invested in a pair of insulated ski overalls, and along with the five layers on top I look a lot like the Pillsbury Dough Boy, but I'm always comfy/cozy in my cocoon. It hasn't killed me yet, so I figure it must be good for me.

Such a wonderful poem Bella, that time at dawn is so wonderful.

Thank you Andy for your kind words. Dawn has always been my favorite time of the day.

I think smt inspired you a lot. Such a state is characteristic of people in love, subtle creative natures with increased sensitivity to both beauty and ugliness on this sinful earth. It is likely that such a state of mind is a break from everyday life.

Thank you so much for your very intuitive comment. I believe you are absolutely right, it is a break from everyday life, a respite at times sometimes from what seems a world gone mad. It's such a wonder what nature can do for us.

I would also like to embrace that beautiful world with you. It's so wonderful. If you write another beautiful poem about unity with nature, I will definitely support you.

I couldn't agree more Bella and I too feel that winter has arrived in my life. I too am as old as the planet of stars around it and am just cycling through another season of life. Well written

Thank my dear friend for your thoughtful comment. I feel very fortunate to have found a place where I can share thoughts and feelings with people who truly understand. It's opened up my tiny, little world, and I feel that I am part of something much bigger and wonderful.

                    ethereal, is a presence
                    very few can comprehend
or recognise with realms of tangible
yet, in each essence we exist within
is potential for us to connect
                    with the universe's splendour
                    beyond the material
                    and commune/meditate/contemplate
all those wondrous elements of existence,
and writes like yours, dear Poet
                    remind us
what value there is in trying to achieve
such levels of connection with the nature all around us....
                    (well, for me at least)
                    thank you!

Your words fill me with such joy dear poet, a kindred spirit who reads my soul. Thank you.
