Doing his Best

Fay Slimm.

Doing His Best.

Watching with wild pride.
Working the cliff-side.

Looking for meal-fare.
Freezing in mid-air.

Floating with sharp eyes.
Swooping he nose dives.

Spreading two huge wings.
Sweeping the high winds.

Falling for meal due
Running one small shrew.

Facing the hawk's beak.
Forming a scream-squeak.

Missing as aim flaws
Swiftly the bird soars..

Trailing the same line.
Waiting for next time.

Predatory Kestral.
Doing his best.

      The sight when focused,
      and senses heightened
      The prey confused,
      oblivious and frightened.
Kestrel kill rate of 60% plus
Your eloquence will surely make it blush

Here, you have captured the essence, spirit and vitality of the windhover .. more widely known as the kestrel taken from the French crecerelle meaning small or falco tinnunculus .. an amazing creature in more ways than one .. many more ways in fact .............Neville x

Your poem, Fay frames this raptor's fearful symmetry as did another poet frame the Tyger.

            • Fay Slimm.

Wow Dave - -- What an honour to be thought of in the same breath as the famous Blake -- my blush and a load of thank yous my friend.

This brings so many memories. Watching hawks and eagles as a grand part of nature. So well and succinctly worded.

              • Fay Slimm.

Thank you a load for dropping by Soren - - I truly agree there is no better sight than hawks on the wing.

A beautiful tribute to a beautiful creature. I can envision as I read, this soaring bird of prey in all it's maneuvers. Your love of nature is something I always look forward to dear friend.

                • Fay Slimm.

Yes we both share a love of the wild creatures and as you rightly say Bella the windhover or kestrel is one of the sky's most majestic. birds.- - Thank you for your kind review.
