Tune: Forest Green

('O little town of Bethlehem')

Matthew 1 v.18-25

******

When Mary to Joseph, she be

Espoused, betrothed, we see

To Joseph, before they marry

A child she did carry

With child by the Holy Spirit

In His purposes fit

Then Joseph being good, upright

Sought to hide her from sight

But while he upon these things thought

And angel to him brought

A message to him in a dream

Who said, Let not it seem

Wrong for you to take Mary here

To be your true wife dear

Fear not, for her child conceived be

'Tis by the Spirit, see

A she shall bring forth a son, name

Shall be JESUS, the same

He shall be Saviour, His people

Shall save from their sins all

Now all this was done to fulfil

The prophecy, God's will

Spoken by Isaiah, Behold

The words now here be told

That a virgin shall be with child

Mary His mother mild

For she shall bring forth a son, He

Emmanuel shall be

This is 'God with us', Joseph woke

Did as angel had spoke

Took Mary for his wife, she bore

JESUS, Saviour e'ermore

Thanks N. You know Carol? Can she beat an egg? You met Miss Ticipation yet (Ann to her friends)? I'm becoming confused and rambling. Delirious?!

A typo crept in, amended now. The last line of verse 1 got in right at the end of the last verse.
An 'e'ermore' got in officially though.

Thanks CB. I can't tell how many it will be at the moment. lol. I've not 'prepared them all earlier' as the saying goes. I'm aiming for one per day unless I get writer's block.

This time of the year it's writer's bauble not writer's block! Unless you get alphabet blocks as a pressie.

Good one Orchi but a good job it was not in Indonesia where living together outside marriage is now illegal!

This is indeed a brilliantly penned Carol. I'm sure you must have set it to music. It could be sung in churches the world over like the carols of Joseph Mohr, Charles Wesley, Philips Brooks etc. Thanks for reviewing my poems. Sorry my reply is somewhat belated, I have limited access to the web. You may set my poem 'Jesus my Lord,' to music, if you so wish.
