A man once told me to walk, not run
He warned life would pass me by
The man told me to stop and go slow
To make friends and not be shy
The man warned time flies in the blink of an eye
He said he lived to have too many regrets
He said priceless things passed him by
He said things he won’t be enjoying when he’s dead
The man was rich but stood alone
He said he could have everything he wants and more
He stressed to me the importance of things that cannot be bought
He said he was without the thing he sought
The man said he always wanted to be rich
He believed money would make him feel fulfilled
He regrets that mentality now, because his life he cannot switch
He said a legacy he cannot build.

really insightful, thanks for sharing dear poet
your words made me remember the lyrics
to a Tina Dico song titled, 'a quarter to forever':
'Take your time
It's a quarter to forever now
To everyone who thinks that love was just a dream they had
Who thinks tomorrow and the future has nothing new to add and
To everyone who's watched their hopes run out and slam the door
And everyone who still don't know what they are looking for or
Found it and dropped it on the floor
Whose hands and arms have gotten sore
From holding on too tight to what once was
Take your time
It's a quarter to forever now'
That’s beautiful, I’m going to have to listen to the song. That verse is wonderfully written. Thank you for your positive feedback. I appreciate your read.
