Easy Lives.

Goldfinch60

Well that took me back,

Back to my youth.

The central heating has stopped,

Needed repairing.

So I came rushing down stairs

First thing in the morning

And put the gas oven on,

To warm the kitchen,

Then lit the fire in the lounge

To try and get warmth in the house,

On this freezing cold day.

This is what we did back in time,

When we had no central heating.

It was so cold in the house

That steam came from our mouths,

There was ice on the windows,

On the INSIDE!

Those were the days,

The days so long ago,

But I survived,

As did so many.

We do have easy lives nowadays.

I don't know how long a business had been open - probably since the Stone Age - but I read a notice including: 'Staff shall take it on a rota to collect buckets of coal for the fire in the winter season. And ask permission to use the (outside) W.C.'. Brrr!
Even - pencil sharpeners are available upon request to the Office Manager.

So true Orchi, things were so different back in those days but we survived and have the strength that we learned to carry us through our long lives.

And how was it for us in the Dinosaur Age? We know these 'good old days' things! Or were they 'bad old days', or 'the same as today's days'? lol. Do they, lesser-living human mortals than us, know how long our lives have been, you and I?!

        Wot no central heating?
        That does take some beating:
        Gas oven substituting -
        Climate change not reducingโ€ฆ.

Ok if I term some of these insertions of mine "mock quatrains? Alternatively , you could consider them a pioneering attempt to extend the form........LOL!
Evokes terrible memories of my childhood until I moved to the Australian tropics aged 13!

It does take me back to those early years of my life.

You can use them any way you want to Dave, no problem.

Wow - - what a thrill despite the cold hear to hear Apache again - takes me back to battling the winter in the Cotswolds years ago and that area can get really well below zero -- hoping you stay warm with that gas oven on and cooking your meals today Andy.

          • Goldfinch60

Thank you Fay, the heating was fixed and all was well.

its true, we take so many
            of everyday amenities? for granted
            but those before us
            lived perfectly fine without them
for we're proof, that they did!
really like the flow and internal rhymes
such a wonderful story telling feel to it all
            thank you! Andy

            • Goldfinch60

Thank you Mek, yes we did survive those early days and we are stronger for it.

93 days, 22 hours and 58 minutes until Spring. We'll be there in no time. LOVE the video. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So the countdown has started has it AP, all will be good in our lives no matter what the weather.

Well as the song goes in the movie "Life Of Brian", Always look on the bright side of life. (you'll have to imagine the whistling) ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

I had that song played at the end of my wife's funeral three years ago. She always had a smile on her face.

Which I believe left a smile on your face. ๐ŸŒน
