Tune: Yorkshire

('Christians wake, salute the happy morn')

Luke 2 v.15-20

**********

When angels to the shepherds they had been

Shepherds glorious night scene they had seen

They said to one another, Let us go

Now unto Bethlehem, then we shall know

And see this thing that is sure come to pass

Which the Lord wondrous has told unto us

And they came with haste, found Joseph, Mary

With the babe Jesus, in manger He be

And when they had seen, they did then make known

All that the angel host had to them shown

The saying concerning the child Jesus

That He is born a Saviour unto us

And that they would find Him in manger laid

There wrapped up, laying, and humble displayed

They shared the tidings of great joy to men

And all that heard these things did wonder then

But Mry kept all these things, and pondered

Them in her heart, each event and each word

Then the shepherds returned, glorifying

And praising God, rejoicing in each things

That they had heard, and what too they had seen

As the angel's word to them it had been

Telling of Christ, His birth into this world

God's will and plan to mankind here unfurled
