After dealing with some health issues for the last few months, I have decided to take a leave of absence until the dust settles and the clouds go away. I feel badly that I have been absent so much, for I miss my friends. I hope to be back before too long. I also hope that all of you will all be safe and well.
He’s perched upon my goose neck lamp
As I sit this winters day
My fingers hovering over keys
Without a thing to say
He watches as I hem and haw
And dawdle to distraction
Aligning pencils on the desk
Unable to take action
His silly grin and floppy ears
Just mock me as I ponder
I briefly find a cogent thought
Then my mind begins to wander
“OK Bean, inspire me”
Be my muse today
But all he does is turn his head
And watch the snow at play
I hear the little sounds he makes
As he slowly looks at me
The grumble, mumble, squeak, harrumph
While he shakes his head so dismally
He takes Teddy from his pocket
And shakes a little paw at me
Then a smile spreads across his face
And lights his eyes with glee
Is he capable of profundity?
Can he guide me on my quest?
To find the something deep, profound
That lies within my breast
Alas, I find that he’s just there
To keep it light and gay
He encourages me to commit
A random act of silliness each day
So here it is, my silliness
For I’ve nothing else to give
For without a little silliness
What is this life we live?

Here is my year's sanity in a poem. A good way to end the year with!
Thank you dear friend, so glad that you enjoyed. Mr. Bean, in his own inimitable way, seems to make some sense of life.
That he does!
Indeed!
Well he brought some fine words to you in these one Bella.
Andy
Thank you Andy, so kind of you. Several years ago I found this little guy dangling from a pull chain in the living room the day after Christmas. My daughter, a Beano also, hung him there for me to find. He's been on the goose neck ever since.
Good write Bella.
Thank you Orchi. Have a good one!
If I could offer an award for bringing a smile to this old fellas face, I would unreservedly award you gold for this magnificent take on one of my favourite characters
.. Nine yes x9 perfectly formed rhyming verses and each one building on its predecessor and keeping to script is no easy task .. I rarely change my mind these days having once made it up, but on this occasion feel compelled to swap the gold star for a platinum one 🙂 x
Thank you dear Nev, I am swooning from your more than kind words. I discovered Mr. Bean in the early 90's through our PBS station (public broadcasting system), even had a Mr. Bean sweatshirt which I proudly wore. He has a childlike innocence and impulsivity that you just have to love. I have always loved Rowan Atkinson in all his genres comedy to drama (did an excellent job portraying "Maigret" in the series). So I humbly accept this award, and thank you for always being so very encouraging and supportive. Without all of these wonderful friends, I wouldn't be here!
What a delightful picture to head your excellent rhyme dear Bella which I am sure Mr Bean would be honoured to read. Thank you for giving me such a big smile.
Thank you dear Fay, so glad that it gave you a smile. And Mr. Bean thanks you as well, he's making his happy little sounds as I read this to him. Take care my friend.
love this!
'Aligning pencils on the desk
Unable to take action'
so relatable, in our procrastination
all humanity is aligned...
lol
(just the other day
I was reminiscing with someone
about the mr bean specials on tv
and how festive season tv, as a whole
was such a central part of our childhoods
how we would get the tv guides
and circle everything we wanted to watch..
I appreciate progress
but I mourn for those nuggets
that accumulated, to make
our festive seasons that more special
because it took effort to make them, so...
oh well, my grey's allows me
to nag a little, but only a little...
(Hope you have a lovely festive season, dear Poet
thanks for all the great reads you've shared)
Thank you my dear, dear friend, for I to love to reminisce about those halcyon days of yore. So many of the characters that we enjoyed way back when are timeless, and it's so nice that we can return to them when we need some comfort or just a laugh to ease the day. I love the camaraderie we share in this wonderful group of friends, it always makes my day. Wishing you a festive season in return, peace and love be with you.
Well Mr. Bean is a bit silly in his own way, that's why we love him so much!
Thank you my friend, you are so right. Maybe there's a little Bean in all of us, I hope. Take care!
Bella I look forward to your poems and how they share the common beauty in this world that often goes unnoticed. My favorite episodes and movies by Mr. Bean were just that because he didn't speak. He needed no words to convey comedy and make me laugh. laughter is the best ,medicine.
You are so right my dear friend. I find it intriguing that Rowan Atkinson has a speech impediment, which lead him to acting and comedy as a way of dealing with it. He really did use laughter to combat his disability, and as a result has brought laughter to millions around the world for many years. Thank for your kind words, it it always a joy to share thoughts and experiences with a kindred spirit. I love reading your poems because they have a rare quality of perception that goes beyond simply looking at the world. You engage, stimulate, challenge the reader to participate, and that is a gift.
