Hymn & Tune: 'God rest ye merry, gentlemen'
Luke 1 v.67-76
Part of the 'Benedictus' for Christmas Eve
**********
Zacharias, his prophecy
At son John's birth it be
He filled with the Holy Spirit
His way by the Lord lit
He said, Blessed be the Lord God, He
Comes to His people, see
Chorus
Message of John Baptist's mission known
His mission known
Unto his father it was shown
For the Lord God has visitéd
His people redeeméd
And has raised up His strength this hour
Of salvation, His power
For His people, as He did speak
By prophets humble, meek - Chorus
It is that we should be saved so
From enemies, this know
And from hand of all that us hate
Who would spoil our estate
To perform the mercy promised
To ancestors, not missed - Chorus
Adn to remember His holy
Covenant, firm it be
The oath which He did sware unto
Our father Abraham true
That He would grant unto us, we
Be redeemed by Him free - Chorus
That we from enemies be freed
Might serve Him whole indeed
Without fear*, and in holiness
And too in righteousness
All the days of our life, and you
John are His prophet true - Chorus
--------
* 'fear' here means: without 'afraid' type of fear.
There is 'godly fear' though, in serving our Lord.

In the carol title, there is a comma after 'merry'.
To be voiceless like Zacharias until the appointed time has come. Now that is a telling revelation!
Thanks merry, erm, CB. It was known as - long word now! - psychophonosthenia.
That's psycho-phonos-thenia - 'soul-sound-less'!
Yep, only Fido knew that word. I only found it by searching google.
