My Biggest Fear

rhmn_7

My biggest fear is to live a long life,

and still being unknown to myself.

Experiencing so many seasons,

yet still feeling numb for myself.

Traveling the whole world,

yet still being lost to myself.

Helping my fellow others,

but still not caring for myself.

Listening to both dead and living,

yet still mute to myself.

Seing colors of the spectrum,

only showing darkness to myself.

Working from sunrise to dawn,

not giving any credit to myself.

Searching for a shooting star,

not seeing the shining gem in myself.

My biggest fear is to live a long life,

and not living it with myself.

We must always care for ourselves as if we do not how can we help others. Good words rhmn_7.

A precursor to the existential question. Shakespear said "To thine own self be true" and how can you be true without knowing oneself? Good write

Lovely to hear that we share common ground with Shakespear!

Only you can be the best friend of yourself, wish you the best of luck!

How very wise, the message of this poem. As we race through life we too often pay ourselves little heed, our lives are far too busy. But when the business of life slows down, and the demands are no longer there we begin to contemplate the life we've lived, and can come to understand and I think respect the person we see in the mirror. Yours are words to live by, at no matter what age.
