Tune: Heinlein
('40 days and 40 nights')
Psalm 77 v.5-9
********
I call to remembrance my
Song in the night, as there nigh
Me various troubles, trials
In their different aspects, styles
I commune with my own heart
When things seem to fall apart
My spirit with diligence
Searches out why distress vents
Will the Lord cast off for e'er?
Favour with us no more share?
is His mercy gone e'ermore?
His promise failed, is this sure?
Has God forgotten to be
Gracious? Is He angry? See
Has He shut up His tender
Mercies, not to our help stir?
But many troubles can be
Of our own making freely
Yet come to us Lord we pray
From our night times led to day

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.7.7.7. format. Not all the Psalms are completely joyful. There are troubles, questionings, trials, etc too, in some of them, or parts of them.
