Presence, Power, Peace

orchidee

Tune: St Denio

('Immortal, invisible, God only wise')

Ephesians 3 v.14-21 parts

Based on a prayer from the Syrian Clementine Liturgy,

circa 4th Century AD

*********

O God, the unsearchable abyss of peace

The ineffable sea of love, does ne'er cease

The fountain of blessings, and the bestower

Of affection, with your riches you us shower

You who send peace to those who do it receive

They trust in your mercy, and in you beleive

Open to us this day the sea of your love

Guide us, teach us, by your Spirit, holy dove

And water us with your plenteous streams here

From the riches of your grace, to us draw near

Even as your Spirit does us dwell within

Strengthens us with power, and cleanses from sin

And so refreshed by the sweet springs from your store

They ever flow freely, supply evermore

From your benignity, no ill-will bearing

Salvation, eternal life with all sharing

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 11.11.11.11. format. This popped up while reading something - unaccustomed as I am to Syrian Clementine Liturgy prayers of the 4th Century AD. I could look up more - a cue for another series of poems? 'Well, you should know them being millions of years old,' says Fido! lol. In fact I used one a long time ago - a prayer of St Ambrose.

Fido will show 'benignity' (last verse) unless people 'forget' to mark poems 18+ where they should be! lol.

I was only thinking the other day, it must be about time to re-visit a few Syrian Clementine Liturgy prayers of the 4th Century AD .. but then I thought ....... nah' maybe not yet awhile ......................... 🙂

Thanks N. Well, yep, time for recourse to them Syrian prayers methinks. Nothing to do with oranges - clementines!

If you type this in Google,
Red lines will be fully there,
But, as a poet I understand,
The poem is a holy beauty,
        May God bless your always!
