Tune: St James' Air
Adapted from ' A Prayer to God the Father'
by St Clement of Rome: b. 1st Century AD - d. 101 AD
***********
We beseech you, Father, Master
Be helper, protector
Save the afflicted here among
Us, praises to you sung
Have mercy on the lowly, raise
Up fallen, so they praise
You, and appear to the needy
Come, heal the ungodly
Restore the wanderers of your
People, bring them back sure
Ransom our prisoners, up raise
The sick to healthful days
Comfort the faint-hearted, mercy
Have on us all, so be*
What we do ask in prayer humbly
Give us by grace freely
----------
* The actual prayer finishes at the end of this line.
