Today.

Fay Slimm.

Today.

Today, dreams left behind I fall awake,
still dozed, oust myself
out of dark-doldrums, pummeling eyes
and promise the sun to
visit new heather just birthing its buds
on the heath's roof.

Today I will reach heights above windy
ridges of mist and fill
both my hands with pocketed crumbs
to feed ragged robins
who on wintery days haunt the moors
to catch living food.

Today, courting sweet Cornish morning
I choose to go breakfastless
and match Tessa my dog in chasing her
make-believe snacks
of tossed seaweed while bothering gulls
in beach-washed play.

Today I shall sand-hop cloud-shadows
of shifting light and
voiceless give praise for this boisterous
paradise where I
reside so carping diem I now dress and
am quickly away.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Winter now early departed from this mild south-west area of Cornwall calls for the need to celebrate signs of Spring - hence this re-post from my dust-covered folder and hope you enjoy.

Today - every day - a fine poem Fay.
Flattery (?) will get me everywhere!
    Here Tessa, good girl! lol
Pesky Fido won't leave the sofa for his daily walk. He will get up, pinch my armchair soon, and read the poems while in his carpet slippers and smoking his pipe (no tobacco in it!). lol.

    • Fay Slimm.

Ha ha -- - you make your Fido a real go-getter dear Orchi - - glad though that you both liked my offering of Today.

    • orchidee

      Ahh, mellower Spring-like days.
Fido did not budge, when we had freezing fog and frost - Brrr! Temperature about minus 500 degrees some mornings. Only yesterday it was a little misty, but not fog-bound.

      • Fay Slimm.

Yes weather forecasts can alter at will - - but at the moment am happy to say the mild air here is springing Spring flowers early this year.

        • orchidee

Well, we have crocuses starting to grow up. Not flowered just yet, but survived - well, not surviving with reference to battering of winds, as it's been fairly calm. But surviving the freeze ups!
Let's move to Scotland - milder there at the moment - or it was last time I checked! What are we saying?! Do we prefer more snowy weather, closer to the Arctic up North? lol.

Dear Fay the picture you so vividly paint in words is just beautiful. We've at least a couple of months to go here before spring is upon us. I'm so glad that you are out and feeling the joy, the freedom that is being one with nature. Thank you for sharing the experience with this lovely verse.

                  • Fay Slimm.

And thank you dear Bella from my end for your continued support of my small tributes to nature's splendour whatever the season - - Spring has to be one of my favourite times for looking a bit closer to see what has survived winter weather - and celebrating those green shoots now appearing
