Sirens

sorenbarrett

Some see angels

Others see a light

I hear distant music

Calling in the night

Like the voice of a siren

Cutting through mist far away

So remote, but crystal clear

To guide me on my way

So alluring and seductive

My soul can not resist

I don't notice the rocks ahead

I can't feel the ship list

With the music's intoxication

I don't see the sea rise

Even my impending damnation

Is beautiful in mine eyes

I drown in my tears

But I feel no pain

No longer with any fears

I move on to a new domain

Hell turned to a pastoral spring

Even gods don't stand a chance

It's when the sirens sing

That the devil comes to dance

That read with such fluidity and carried me along even back to a memory of old when the ship we were sailing on got caught in a typhoon so strong we listed to the closest safe harbour the women and children to one side and the men to the other. A distinct memory was the rolling of an empty cola bottle that rolled along the deck uncaring of it being observed. Good stuff here, Soren, the poem not the memory.

There's not only the Devil who dances here, Soren - the whole piece dances along with pace and energy out of control, yet contained in disciplined lines Thoroughly enjoyed.

Thanks Andy for the review and comment. Yes I have tried all kinds of instruments and am no good at any of them but this does not deter my deep love for all kinds of music. It moves the soul.

LOL! Even gods don't stand a chance! A sweet subtle reference to Odysseus' gods... as if they were as doomed as his men lured by the sirens!
