Tune: Aberystwyth
('Jesu, lover of my soul')
Adapted from 'Prayer to God the Father'
A prayer by St Irenaeus of Lyons, 130-202AD
*********
To you, Lord God, I appeal
God of Abraham, hear still
God of Jacob, Israel
Father of our Lord as well
Our Lord Jesus Christ is He
He your true Son ever be
Infinitely merciful
As you are, give grace to all
It is your will we should learn
To know you, your ways discern
You made heaven and earth, you
Rule supreme o'er all, 'tis true
You are the true, the only
God, and there sure never be
Any god above you, for
You are Lord for evermore
I ask through our Lord Jesus
Christ, and the gifts unto us
Of the Holy Spirit, pray
I that all who read this day
What I have written, that they
May know you, not turn away
Because you are God alone
Your Son does for us atone
Let the people from your draw
Strength, keep them from the allure
Of all teaching false, but true
Guide them in the truth of you
And keep them from heresies
And what irreligious be
And what is godless, so they
Follow you closer each day

I've got a thing about sevens too sir..
Thanks N. Bingo! It's some hymns by Charles Wesley - he liked them 7's.
I could have put it as 7.7.7.7.D. (D for Ditto)!
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
