imposter syndrome

H. Jordan

Do they not know

Are they not aware

Their expectations are based on lucky plays and potential

Potential potential

A million nickels in my pocket

If I had a nickel every time I heard someone say,

“She has potential”

Every time I search for a reason to excuse my mistakes

So they won’t see me for the fraud I am

How many years have I gone through this

How hard have I worked for this

And yet I don’t feel I deserve this

See my shaking hands

Watch the adrenaline carry my body

Watch me go over a million different mistakes

And look to others for the validation I cannot give myself

I think poems can be just how we wish them to be, whether we have had training, etc, or not, e.g. Rhyming or not, free-style, formal, short or long lines, etc. 🙂

Self validation or confidence is a two edged sword. You can cut yourself so easily. It’s all in the eye of the beholder, can anyone remember the book zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance? If not, read it…it’s not really about motorbikes!

So true!! I'll give it a look!
