Tune: Kingsfold
('I heard the voice of Jesus say')
Adapted from 'Prayer to the Divine Tutor'.
A prayer by St Clement of Alexandria, 150-215AD
*********
Be kind to your little children
Lord, bless them even then
This is what we ask of you, for
You are their Tutor sure
You are Israel's guide, your Son
Jesus Christ He the One
And you are the Father also
A Trinity, we know
Grant that by doing what you told
Us to do, we your fold
May achieve a faithful likeness
Of your image, no less
As far as it is possible
To be for humans all
And you a good god may we find
And lenient Judge kind
May we all live in the peace here
That comes from you, it clear
May we journey to your city
And calm our passage be
Through the waters of sin, touched not
By the waves, that our lot
Born tranquilly along by your
Holy Spirit, guide pure
He is your Wisdom, beyond all
Human wisdom's recall
Night and day until the last day
Of all, may we sing, say
Praises and thanks, you who alone
Are Father, Son, this known
With the Holy Spirit you be
Our Tutor constantly

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.6.8.6. 8.6.8.6. format. I've reached to 3rd Century AD in these old prayers! It's not a prayer for every Century, but a selection of about 10 old prayers from ye olden days. I forget sometimes that the Psalms are all over 2,000 years old, and more like about 3,000 years old!

I once trusted one of my teachers from primary school .. he is still serving time for something dreadful
Thanks N. I once trusted a prisoner until he asked me for money, and then more money.....
Can ya beat a bit of tutoring?
"Be kind to your children" and at times it is so difficult not to exasperate these little people. But we strive to be for them what no one else can, it's far and thoroughly a jungle out there.
Thanks CB. Sometimes, in ye olden days more perhaps, everyone of any age were called 'children'.
The quintessential tutor, for without whom we are lost. Good write dear Orchi.
Thanks Bella.
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
