Even when you are full grown
as long as I live and breathe
you will always have a home
your cupboards are bare till you next get paid...
Come home and I'll feed you till you can take care of yourself
bring me your washing if you need to
I'll wash it and dry it then send it back with you
no heating in the house you call home
Please come home...
there's a nice warm bed and a hot bath waiting for you
Even when you are full grown
as long as I live and breathe
you will always have a home.

Wait, are you psychic? My daughter and her husband spent 10 days with us earlier this month after a nasty ice storm that tore down powerlines across our region and left their home frigid and dark. And my son spent several nights with us because his GF had to work all night for several days at community warming centers for the homeless and those with no where to go during power outages. It was like having teenagers again! We got to feed them, fix up beds, entertain them, share the bathroom, do laundry, and catch up on everyday life. Your poem hit home for us. Each of our children, now in their 30s, still has their old room in our home waiting for any time they need it. Sigh. Thanks for sharing!
So very true kitty, we must always be there for our children.
Andy

words like yours
is why I choose to hope and believe
in poetry's capacity, to heal
these poem will comfort, all who read
and hear, that nurturing parent
they wish they were granted
and to your children, well
I hope they'll realise how lucky they are..
life-affirmingly Brilliant

Hello, I love this for many reasons. If you are writing about your own grown children, they are very blessed to have you, either way it's a wonderful poem, all the best to you.
Kitty, lovely write and feel of the poem shows your motherly affection is really deep rooted and your care is everywhere in those words. Touching one indeed...Continue to be the same and your children are truly blessed.
