An Old Café in Nessebar

Freya

I've watched the world go by

In this small corner

And I've seen the lines appear on the faces of people I love

And the dirt thrown into the memories of those who once shaped me

And as I stare at the road my grandfather tirelessly taught me to cross

I wonder how a place I found so much happiness in

Could now cause me so much pain

And as I watch people going about their daily lives

I wonder if they too have a café like mine

Where they grew

Where time passed them so quickly they forgot to be thankful for the lessons they learned

And the people who taught them

And I wonder if sometimes they too just sit amongst the ruins

And wonder where time went

    Dear Author,
your nostalgia for your native land is very close to me. I really like Bulgaria. I visited Nessebar in 2019, admired the ancient cathedrals, beautiful beaches, and most importantly, good-natured and friendly people.
In a word, your poem brought back to me unforgettable impressions about Varna, Burgas, Sunny Beach and lovely Bulgarian villages with a unique identity. Thanks a lot.

      Hi Natalie,
thank you for all of the lovely feedback, it is most definitely a place I hold very close to my heart and I'm glad it could remind you of your time in this beautiful country.
